๐ฒ How to Play Monopoly: A Simple Guide for First-Timers
Whether you're crushing your cousins at game night or dusting off the family board game shelf, Monopoly is a classic for a reason. Here's a no-stress guide to get started (and maybe dominate).
๐ฆ What's in the box ?
- A game board
- 2 dice
- Player tokens
- Property cards
- Chance & Community Chest cards
- Monopoly money
- 32 houses & 12 hotels
- Title Deed cards
๐ง๏ธ Step 1: Choose Your Token & Banker
Pick your favorite token. One player should also volunteer as the banker to handle money, property, and auctions.
๐ต Step 2: Starting Cash
Each player starts with $1,500 in Monopoly money:
- 2 x $500
- 4 x $100
- 1 x $50
- 1 x $20
- 2 x $10
- 1 x $5
- 5 x $1
๐ฒ Step 3: Let the Game Begin
Everyone rolls the diceโthe highest roll starts. Play proceeds clockwise.
๐ Step 4: Your Turn
- Roll both dice
- Move that number of spaces
- Follow the space instructions:
- Buy it if it's unowned
- Pay rent if owned
- Draw a card if it's Chance or Community Chest
- Go to Jail if you land there
๐ฐ Step 5: Buying & Building
Buy properties when you land on them. Once you own all properties in a color group, you can build houses (and eventually hotels) to raise rent.
๐ Jail Rules
Ways to land in jail:
- Landing on "Go to Jail"
- Drawing a jail card
- Rolling doubles three times
To get out:
- Pay $50
- Use a "Get Out of Jail Free" card
- Roll doubles
๐ Step 6: Trading & Auctions
Trade with others anytime. If a player declines a purchase, the banker auctions it to the highest bidder.
โ ๏ธ How the Game Ends
Players are eliminated when bankrupt. The last player standing wins! Or, set a time limit and crown the richest player.
- Buy early and often
- Prioritize completing color sets
- Railroads are underrated
- Be strategic with your trades
Now you're ready to rule the board. Just try not to flip the table when someone builds a hotel on Park Lane ๐
